Sandra did not want to be like that guy Komaketch they caught cheating in the exam, but the truth is she had not read for the exam and failure was guaranteed. So, she went to Wandegeya and hired an ‘expert’ at cheating. She paid 500k and even gave the expert her exam card, ID and she met the ‘expert’ right before the exam started and she was impressed. The expert had done make up and looked almost like Sandra. Unfortunately, the invigilator was a family friend of Sandra and he noticed that the ‘Sandra’ writing the exam did not seem like the one he knew. After a brief struggle, the ‘expert’ was arrested and taken to the police. The bad news is that the expert has confessed and thrown Sandra under the bus.
Sandra wants to know if the police can arrest her for merely cheating on her exam.
WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?
Earlier today, we told you about the difference between doing something wrong and committing a crime. We told you that copying or cheating in exams is wrong in academic circles, but it was not a crime because there is no law that talks about cheating in school.
However, this is not always true. It is different if you hire someone to sit the exam on your behalf. Although technically you are still cheating on your exam (which is a school matter), this person has done something known as impersonation.
According to the law, impersonation is pretending to be someone to in order to commit fraud or a dishonest act. It is even more serious when you pretend to be someone else and present yourself to a person authorized by law to receive those documents. This can lead to imprisonment of up to 2 years.
For Sandra, sending the ‘expert’ to pretend to be her to sit and cheat on her exam, is an act of fraud and dishonesty, and this means that the ‘expert’ has to answer to the law and Sandra who engineered this whole thing might also have to answer to the law and the university.
