Marungi Growers, Sellers & Consumers in Arua City Ask Parliament to Exempt the Substance From the Newly Passed Bill.
Following the enactment of "The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Bill, 2023" by Parliament of Uganda on Tuesday 22-8-2023 which show Marungi / Mira amongst the list of banned substances, its growers, sellers and consumers in Arua City have on Monday 28-8-2023 blamed MPs for passing the bill without prior consultation concerning positive and negative effects of the drug, and they have asked Parliament to exempt the substance from the list of banned drugs in the bill.

An 18-year-old S.4 student Walter Asiku whom our reporter found spraying pesticides on Marungi plantations, says he earns an average money of 15,000 Shs daily just for spraying pesticides on people's Marungi plantations.
While decrying Parliament's decision of banning the drug, Asiku is optimistic that, this law will financially affect the future of many people.
Mr William Sanke the LC1 Chairperson of Angufewa Cell, who is also a Marungi farmer in Ariwara parish, Dadamu Sub-county, Ayivu East Constituency in Arua City has asked MPs to go on ground to do more consultations about the positive and negative effects of the substance.
A widow with 8 children, Ms Omuko Anna says, she sales Marungi in order to raise fees and food for her orphans as she currently has a Child in S.6, others in O level and primary school section and she pays all their fees through selling of Marungi.
She pinned officials in division council for chasing them away from selling the substances by the roadside.
