Contention rises as government plans to resettle landless communities on ranch 11

By Information is Power reporter, Kundu Ronald. Kiryandongo, Uganda: Contention has risen over the anticipated resettlement of the Nubian and Kibyama communities on ranch 11 by government. The developments came after government budgeted for 200 million shillings for resettling the affected communities, something that has been in process for about 20 years.  According to Hon Karubanga Jacob Ateenyi, there has been delayed justice for people who were displaced by government and Lakwena wars and so it became necessary  for government to resettle the affected communities.  He notes "Government promised to resettle the Kibyama and Nubian communities on ranch 11 after Uganda wildlife authority ruthlessly evicted people without compensation from Karuma wildlife game reserve in 1999"  He further observed that during late President Iddi Amin's tenure as president, government evicted people from the former Palestinian farm land and after his overthrow people returned before th...

Wagner boss says march on Moscow halted to ‘avoid bloodshed’.

Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin says he ordered his mercenaries to halt their march on Moscow to avoid “shedding Russian blood”. Prigozhin said while his men are just 200km (120 miles) from Moscow, he decided on Saturday to turn them back to prevent killings. “We are turning our columns around and going back to field camps,” he said. The comments by Prigozhin in an audio message came after Belarus’ leader Alexander Lukashenko said he negotiated with the mercenary boss to stop Wagner’s troop movement. He accepted Lukashenko’s offer to halt the Wagner group’s advance and further steps to de-escalate the tensions, Lukashenko’s office said, adding the proposed settlement contains security guarantees for Wagner troops. It did not elaborate. Prigozhin did not say whether the Kremlin responded to his demand to oust Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu. There was no immediate comment from the Kremlin. President Vladimir Putin faced the biggest threat to his rule yet with rebel mercenaries advancing t...

By Kundu Ronald Youths in Kiryandongo District, western Uganda have decried the delayed operationalization of Bunyoro Public University after very many years of unfulfilled hope. While attending the annual District youths council on Friday, the youths through their leaders wondered why the university has taken such a long period of time to kick-start operationalization ever since the President’s directive to establish the institution over 10 years ago. WHAT DO I DO IF THE PERSON WHO TOOK MY CAR WITHOUT PERMISSION DAMAGED IT ?.

By BarefootLawyers.  Sibibye is a mechanic who has watched too many ‘Fast and Furious” movies. Yesterday, he was given a Subaru to repair and decided to ‘do donuts’ and drift with the car. Long story short, the Mugaga’s Subaru collided with a shop and it is no more. The Mugaga had only brought the car for service, what is he supposed to do now that Sibibye has destroyed it. WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? Earlier today, we told you that to take something that does not belong to and use it without the owner’s permission is theft. However, sometimes arresting someone for theft does not restore what was taken or stolen if it is damaged or destroyed. In this case, the law allows you to sue the person who has ‘stolen’ and damaged your property in “civil courts” for what the law calls ‘conversion’. Conversion means intentionally taking away or using the personal property of someone else without their permission or authority. Now if the Mugaga proves that the Subaru was his and that h...

AM I STEALING IF I ‘BORROW’ SOMETHING WITHOUT PERMISSION FOR A ‘SHORT’ TIME ?.

By BarefootLawyers.  No one washes cars better than Kanaabi. He can make even the oldest car look new when he decides to scrub it. He has washed ‘Mpenkonis’, Benzs, BMWs, Hummers and even a Lamborghini. Recently he met Zaina when she came to the washing bay to deliver fruits, and she mistakenly thought he was the owner of the ML Benz that he was sitting inside to clean. So, he promised to take her for lunch the next week.  When Big Don, the washing bay’s best customer brought his new BMW for a ‘full service’ wash, Kanaabi saw this chance and drove the car to take Zaina for lunch. While whispering ‘sweet nothings’ in jam, Big Don saw them in his precious ‘brand new’ BMW and called the traffic officers to arrest the ‘thief’ playing with his car. Kanaabi tried to flee but he was arrested and up to now, Kanaabi is in a police cell for theft. He has sent relatives to plead with Big Don to forgive him because he was not stealing the car but was going to bring it back aft...

The bill also protects the inheritance rights of children raised in a same-sex marriage, as well as the adoption rights of same-sex couples.
