Complete Darkness Looms as Nyadri Sub-County Fails to Repair Security Lights Despite Major Revenue Sources.
Nyadri subcounty in Maracha district on thursday approved a balanced budget estimate for the next financial year 2023/24 amounting to 63.9 million.
However the approved budget excludes central government transfers of over 500 million.
A section of residents from the subcounty who spoke to Information is Power reporter, believes the budget shall have less impact to the community.
They have particularly decried what they term as poor service delivery in the subcounty.
"Now if they have failed to repair a minor security lights on the subcounty office building making the subcounty headquarters live in total darkness for months like this , do you think the subcounty does not have revenue sources to do this minor repairs?", wondered a resident who during the day attended the process of budget approval in the gallary.
"Tell me anything tangible the current Council has done in their close to three years stay in office which is of benefit to the community?".
The complaints of the residents over service delivery matches a similar concern raised by the district councillor representing Nyadri subcounty,Mr Aliociri museali Luka who recently tasked the subcounty leaders to exercise transparency and accountability for public fund which are either generated locally or received from Central government transfers.
"My Chairman, we are more than two years in office but we have not done much that is of benefit to the community as subcounty, what shall we tell them come election period ', Mr Aliociri museli asked.
"Yes I agree resources are not enough, but what has that little done for our community?" museali further sought to understand.
In a recent public meeting, the subcounty chief, Mr Drati Vincent and lc3 chairperson ,Mr andeoye William had complained of dropping indicative planing figures received from Central government transfers as the reason for the subcounty not doing to the expectations.
Nyadri subcounty beside trading liances collections has major Ayi livestock market and rentals of lockups in Maracha Town council as boosting the revenue sources but where funds generated from theses major sources are utilised is the question that most community members asked.
