THE PLOY TO KILL EDUCATION COMPLETELY.

Monday, February 6, 2017 #Education in #Uganda is for the privileged, school fees cripple families In Uganda, most families invest everything into the education of their children because most know that education is the only way you can invest truly.  Many families spend all their income on school fees. Many sell their land and cows to pay for the education of their kids to only watch them graduate and be sold into slavery. We are having a debate on the cost of education because the fees have become prohibitive for most parents.  The following information is for kids joining S1 (O'level first year which is equivalent to grade 8 in Canada). While looking at the numbers, keep in mind that a medical doctor is paid sh. 800,000 (USD 225) per month if he is lucky to get his or her salary on time.  University professors earn about the same. Some people do earn as much as sh. 3,000,000 though (USD $840) per month. The average family has 4 kids (many have more) but use 4 kids as a baseline.  Now you will see why theft, bribes and corruption in Uganda are rampant.  People also have to pay for housing, food, transportation and medical care as well as school supplies and clothing. Uganda runs a school system of 3 terms per year so these fees are to be multiplied by 3 per year.  The kids only go to University after 6yrs of secondary school and we will get into University education in the future. I have added the $ beside each and noted where our family studied.  There are many other expensive schools missing from this list. For example Buddo, Namilyango, Namasagali, Namugongo, Mwiri College, Masaba College, etc. The list is not exhaustive. Martha Leah Nangalama PS: None of the schools below have kids learning like in the picture you see. They are high end schools that only a minority can afford but now even that minority are hurting. ================ A day after Government allowed Schools to increase school fees to meet the rising cost of living, below is the School fees structures of different schools in the Country. Mary’s College Kisubi                   1,900,000 + 500,000 'development fee' = sh. 2,400,000 ($670). Mt St Mary’s Namagunga  1,700,000 ($475) - my sister and I went to this one. Gayaza High school           1,520,000 From 1,230,000 ($425). One of my sisters went to this one. Kibuli SS                                 1,400,000 ($391) Makerere College                1,200,000 ($335) Ndege SS                             1,530,000  From 1,000,000 ($427) Bweranyangi                   1,000,000 ($279) Trinity College Nabbingon  940,000 ($263) MaryHill HS                                        916,000 ($256) Ntare School                            940,000 (263) Mengo SS                                           810,000 ($226) St Henry, Kitovu                                1,000,000 From 900,000 ($251) Tororo Girls’ school                   900,000 From 792,000 ($221). Several sisters went to this one. Iganga SS                                        800,000 From 730,000 ($204). Several brothers went to this one. St Peters’ SS , Nsambya                   900,000 From 780,000 ($218). Teso College, Aloet,                    976,000 From 770,000 ($273). Iganga high                                    570,000 From 420,000 ($159). Mbale SS                                410,000 ($115). Many relatives went to this one. Nabumali high school                    797,000 ($223). Brothers and relatives went to this one. Manjasi high school                       500,000 ($140). Brothers and other relatives went to this one. St Paul’s College, Mbale                   584,000 ($163). Masaba SS  460,000                 400,000 ($112). The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mr Alex Kakooza, says, Government allowed secondary schools to set their own school fees, But he warned the increase should “be within the limit” although he didn't state the minimum or maximum fees to be charged saying this will depend on individual institutions. Schools are set to receive Senior One students for the first term on February 13.  Tell me how a poor man's child in a U.S.E school deep in Kyankwanzi or Kabuyanda would ever compete with  academically who spend close to 2millions a term. Most of these schools and their standards are a reservie for the privileged like me and him as an elite but not you majority Ugandans. because, how many cows, would a parent in Kabagarame need to sell in order to educate a child from S1-S4 at 2m per term for quliaty standard of Education? Yes,,,the cost of living has risen we admit, But does Government put into consideration majority Ugandans who continue being affected by these so called cost of living? or first priority is given to School directors who most are not known to many? How comes Schools feel the rising cost of living and increase fees, but when a farmer face a shrinking price of produces, under the same cost of living nothing is done? Why is it that when teachers,Nurses and doctors request for salary pay rise so as to match with the currecnt cost I living nothing is done??? What is the main problem??? Many questions with no answers. For God and My country uganda.
