IS REMAND A PUNISHMENT SOMEONE GETS?.

📷: Unsplash. Jajja Mbidde knows her grandson is not a thief, but she cannot understand why the 'judge' has refused to let him go. Every time that he is brought to court, they send him back for something called 'remand'. Jajja Mbidde is tired, and she wants to know if it is a new crime called remand or if she should just 'write to the president, ‘amuyambe'.   WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? When a person is arrested and taken to court to answer a crime, generally, they have to be kept by police until they can be taken to court. Once they are taken to court and the hearing of their case begins, that person must be kept somewhere when the court is closed until the next time the case comes to court. This is where remand comes in.  When we say a person is on remand, we mean that person has been kept in prison until the next time their case comes to court so that they can easily be picked up and brought before the court. This remand time starts from the moment a p

Opinion: Here is My Personal Analysis Over Wednesday's absenteeism of Ministers that Led to Adjournment of the Plenary Session.

By Osuta Yusuf. 6-Sep-2023. 📸: The Speaker Exits the house with some of the MPs after adjourning the house session of Wednesday 6-September-2023. 1. I wasn't there physically but through what i watched online, the session was adjourned too early when there were, roughly less than 50 MPs (if I am not mistaken). 2. Some MPs and the Speaker had tasked some Minister (s) to come on the floor to respond to issues concerning security and safety of Ugandans in the wake of Bombings 💣 by some rebels. 3. The same Minister (s) had a day ago said, they can't respond to those concerns unless President Museveni gives them permission to do so on the floor of Parliament. 4. The Speaker simply used the absenteeism of Minister (s)  to prematurely adjourn the house session as a way to favor the Minister (s). 5. The Speaker promised to meet the President again over absenteeism of Ministers! This simply means, buying of time. 6. President Museveni is set to address the Country

NDA Defends ARV Drugs Consumed by Animals, Says, Their Effects on Human Life is Minimized During Cooking.

📸: NDA officials appearing before the Committee. Wednesday 6-Sep-2023, 3pm . The National Drug Authority has informed Parliament’s HIV Committee that although they had known about farmers feeding & treating their animals with ARVs, the matter wasn’t made public for fear of raising alarm & impacting Uganda’s economic earning from animal exports abroad. "We have known about them (ARVs use in animals), we are trying to do something about it, but there are some concerns that if we blow it out of proportion, what does it mean for the economy if you are going to export food. So it is in that context that you find that whereas we have known about that issue for some time, we are taking some measures without necessarily having to alarm the whole country," Amos Atumanya, Senior Inspector of Drugs-National Drug Authority. 📸: Hon Alanyo Jennifer, UPDF MP in Parliament. Disney’s wildest ride: Iger, Chapek and the making of an epic succession mess.

📸: Disney’s wildest ride: Iger, Chapek and the making of an epic succession mess. KEY POINTS What did a private bathroom, Oogie Boogie and a hippo have to do with the behind-the-scenes chaos between Bob Iger and Bob Chapek at Disney? Here’s the inside story of a CEO succession plan gone awry — a cautionary tale about ego and hubris at the highest levels of corporate America. This article is based on conversations with more than two dozen people who worked closely with Iger and Chapek between 2020 and 2022. After pushing back his retirement four times, Bob Iger finally made the leap. On Feb. 25, 2020, he  announced he would step down  as Disney’s CEO. His hand-picked successor, Bob Chapek, then Disney’s parks chairman, would take over the day-to-day job of running the company, effective immediately. As part of the changing of the guard, the Disney board suggested the new CEO should take over Iger’s expansive office at Disney headquarters in Burbank, California. There was ju
