Complaints of Unpaid Local Labourers Emerge as Maracha District Does a Shoddy Work on River Obaa Bridge Construction.

Maracha District.
The bridge at borderline of nyadri South and Nyadri sub-counties links the road from Onzilabori chapel to koyi via agii trading center.
This particular bridge the district had previously worked on 3 years back eroded and parts swept away leaving a suspended bridge very had for pedestrians to cross through.
However, when district council allocated over 500 million to work on the poor state of road and the two bridges of Obaa and Rinyi which are on the same link, hope was restored amongst residents and road users.
Much as they have applauded district for good work progress on Rinyi bridge, on contrary, they have totally condemned work progress at the life endangering Obaa bridge.
Acidri a resident of the neighboring Randra village, nyadri Sub-county observes inconsistent work quality since the previous workers were allegedly fired after striking over delayed pays of the monies saying this has led to recruit of new workers associated with changed work quality.
Acidri who expresses need for urgent site meeting to address the work quality and payment complaints at the site further reveals that current workers are totally demotivated since there is no clear agreement between them and district on how much they are to be paid and for which period of time.
One of the casual labourer at the site who prefers not to be mentioned narrates " we are not happy since we reported for work after previous workers were fired for striking over pay, imagine since we reported here for work there is no clear terms of work or but they just told us to work ,we are stranded without knowing how much one will receive at the end of work period"
He further says most time they work without proper guidance and direction from supervisors who are hardly seen on ground.
"These people from the district only come here to take pictures and go their way, we lack directions on what to do but we are trying our best." Worker explained.
Similarly the area lcs decry lack of close supervision and monitoring by district team as the worry of possible collapse of the bridges like before.
"same bridge maybe swept away by floods like what we had experienced before if no attention is paid by district to ongoing works at the site."
Efforts to get comments from district engineering team and district team proved futile.

This is bad News for our local people & others. This road could be a short link from Arua side to Nyadri, other than via Ovujo.
