INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD.

By BarefootLawyers. Did you know that today is the international day of the African child? The International day of the African child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991, when it was first introduced by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The purpose of this day is to honour those who participated in the Soweto Uprising on June 16th, 1976.   It also serves as a reminder to keep raising awareness for the improvement of education provided to African children. As we celebrate this day, let us remember to reflect on our rights and duties as citizens towards children.  The Ugandan Constitution states that all children have the right to be cared for, protected, and maintained but also, they all have the right to education. Let collectively work to ensure that we work towards providing care and education for all children in Uganda as we remember this day of the African child. 📷: Unsplash

By BarefootLawyers. Pingu has not been to his village for the last 9 years. Recently, he decided to take his children to meet their grandparents. Everywhere he stopped in the village, he would get insults and they would tell him that he has abandoned his children. When he reached home, his parents were packed and ready to move to Kampala so he can look after them from there. Pingu wants to know if there is a law that makes him look after his parents WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? The law says that the government must create ways to look after the elderly people in Uganda. Other than this, there is no law that makes it rule that children should take care of their parents. However, if you choose to look after your parents, then they become what the law calls 'dependants' . This means that your parents are dependent on you for their well-being and it also means that they must be provided for in your will or if you have no will, then when your property is being distributed, the...
