Ugandan Man Who Built a Classic, Well Lit House for His Burial, Finally Laid to Rest in the House After Two Months of Mourning Him.

Saturday 30-11-2024. By New Vision. AMURIA - Mourners in their hundreds have turned up in Asalatap village, Wera sub-county in Amuria to attend the burial of Francis Onapito Ekomoloit who died in Kampala 65 days ago. Whereas it’s the norm for the African cultures to mourn during the burial, today during the burial of Onapito, it's dancing, singing and feasting. Unlike the usual burials where caskets containing the remains of the person who died are laid down and later covered with soil or concrete alongside an iron sheet, for Onapito, it was closing the door into his resting place which is well-lit with modern bulbs and a wall full of his portraits. “We had two months of mourning and today it’s a celebration. We are celebrating the works of our mustard seed whose fruits were tested by all of us,” remarked Joyce Nyeko, the elder sister of Onapito. A number of traditional troupe performances wiped away the tears of Iteso through their...

In this case, incorrect instructions from the web mapping application seem to have proved fatal. Three men in India recently plummeted to their deaths after the taxi they were traveling in was instructed to drive across an unfinished bridge by Google Maps, a local newspaper has reported. The Economic Times  writes that  the men, who were traveling from one city to another en route to a wedding were driving at night and, thus, were “unaware of the bridge’s condition.” The crash scene was discovered by locals approximately a day after the car plunged over the bridge’s edge when the vehicle was spotted lying under the unfinished structure. A local official told journalists that the car had been navigating with Google Maps at the time of the crash, while a family member of one of the victims similarly blamed the U.S. company’s web app f...

THE WORLD IS NOT A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD...  As my classmates finished lectures and moved to the library to study or back home to rest, I Ndaru in 2009 would jump from lecture to a 12 hour night shift as a security supervisor with Kk security in Kampala Serena hotel....I did all these because my mom was funding me single handedly.  There was this very day I went for a 12 hour night shift right after class, and I had a test the following day. My friend asked me to slow down on my pursuit for money, but I said to her "Jane, if I get broke and Financially stranded today, worse case, I would call home, my mother won't watch me suffer and even though she haven't got much, she won't let me drop out. She would rather borrow than watch me lack. But you see, I haven't got someone to call, even though I have to listen to ...

27-November-2024 Corruption has become a cancer eroding the moral fabric of our societies, stagnating development, and widening inequality. It thrives in environments characterized by weak leadership, poor accountability, and a lack of moral integrity. It implies leadership that upholds integrity and ensures public resources are utilized for the common good. Eng. Gatre Patrick Tips the Public on Money Savings Culture Practices.

📸: Money savings icon. Courtesy Photo. By Eng Gatre Patrick. 22-November-2024. Other things aside; I do forget to share here key lessons I have learnt at my current age and from those nearing retirement or in retirement, that where possible or where a young person can; try to: 1. Plant trees in any scale or size and if u have land; continue to plant more trees. If u don’t have land; fight hard to find avenues to get land or use someone’s land in agreed terms. It pays off with time. As you grow older;’ur needs grow; and u may only limit ur life standard to what u can afford or live in negatives. The reverse is true if u have prior income avenues like trees; 2. Get to learn about money saving avenues like saccos; individual savings like at NSSF; unit trusts at banks and insurance companies and start to deposit that little money and don’t withdraw it as it amazes in to digits over years. With time; u will be shocked how much u can have. The reverse is true if you think u aren’t wo...
