HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE ‘STATE ATTORNEY’?.

📷: Unsplash. Jansoni fought with Mataayo and broke his teeth. Jansoni was arrested and taken to court. His uncle told him that ‘their’ Kyazze had a lawyer in the family. So, Jansoni knew he would easily win the case because Mataayo was ‘too poor’ to hire a lawyer. On the day of court, someone showed up calling herself “State Attorney” and Jansoni was told that this was the government lawyer for Mataayo. Mataayo now thinks someone in government must hate him or else the whole government would not have hired a lawyer for Mataayo who cannot even afford to buy ‘meat’ on Sunday at his home.   WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?. When you report someone for a crime at police, the police carries out investigations and then sends the case to the government office that deals with taking crimes to court called the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).  At the DPP’s office the police file is received by the officials in that office who assess it to see if there is enough proof (evi

Commissioner of Parliament Hon Esther Afoyochan Asks IGG to Focus on Tamming Corruption in PDM.

📸: Betty Kamya (Left) Hands over IGG report to Hon Esther Afoyachan. Wednesday 20-9-2023. Esther Afoyachan, Commissioner of Parliament who received the report on behalf of Speaker Among asked the IGG to focus on the corruption taking place in the Parish Development Model, saying if this isn’t curbed, the intention of bringing the subsistence farmers into the money economy may not be achieved. "Take a lot of interest in the PDM. A lot of money is going into PDM, but there is a lot of siphoning. Eventually what is reaching the beneficiaries is a fraction of what it should have been. I want you to take interest in PDM, you will be shocked at the things happening there and yet you are aware that almost our entire budget is going towards PDM, so I would like our people’s lives to improve as long as PDM is there,” Afoyachan. AFTER HOW LONG CAN YOU CHARGE SOMEONE WITH MURDER?.

📷: Unsplash Kabuuma and Sadiq fought over Nabiryo last year. For a long time Kabuuma had been warning Sadiq to stay away from Nabiryo, but Sadiq had ignored him and continued to call her at night and even give her lifts on his bicycle. Then Sadiq got a job in Kampala and left Buikwe. Kabuuma thanked his gods for helping him but then then on Christmas of 2021, Sadiq now returned with a bodaboda and Kabuuma thought it was going to lose Nabiryo again. Around Easter, Sadiq bought a cloth for Nabiryo and that is how the fight started. In that confusion, Kabuuma hit Sadiq with a wheel spanner and for over a year, Sadiq was in a coma. Last week Sadiq died from those injuries.   Sadiq’s family want Kabuuma to be punished for ‘murdering’ their son. Do they have a point?  WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?. By law, no one is allowed to take the life of another person unless this happens either as a punishment given by a court of law for a crime and that person has been found guilty of that crime

The iPhone belonging to Galina Timchenko, a prominent Russian journalist and critic of the government, was compromised with NSO Group's Pegasus spyware, a new collaborative investigation from Access Now and the Citizen Lab has revealed. The infiltration is said to have happened on or around February 10, 2023. Timchenko is the executive editor and owner of Meduza , an independent news publication based in Latvia. It's currently not clear who deployed the malware on the device. The Washington Post reported that the Russian government is not a client of NSO Group, citing an unnamed person familiar with the company's operations. "The day following the infection she was scheduled to attend a private meeting with other heads of Russian independent media exiled in Europe to discuss how to manage threats and censorship b
