Objective To regulate the relationship between landlords and tenants, to reform and consolidate the law relating to letting of premises, to provide for the responsibilities of landlords and tenants in respect to the letting of premises and related matters. Significant Highlights of the Act A tenancy agreement can be oral, written, in the form of a data message or implied by conduct. Where the consideration is more than 500,000 Uganda Shillings, it should be in writing or data message to be enforceable. Before executing a tenancy agreement, landlords should obtain a valid identification card from the tenant for purposes of identifying a legal person and improve data storage. Rent denominations should be in Uganda shillings unless there is a contrary agreement. This maintains the value of the Ugandan currency. Police in Iganga are hunting for one Yakubu Isabirye, a 25-year-old chapati seller for allegedly murdering Ali Kalulu, a 30-year-old casual laborer he caught in bed with his wife. Kalulu had been a casual laborer at the home of the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO). Trouble started when Lydia Namukose commonly known as Mama Swabura, the wife of Isabirye left her home allegedly to go watch news at the home of the GISO. It was moments later that, following a tip-off from one of the neighbors, Isabirye dashed into the area armed with a knife, he broke into the house where Kalulu and Namukose lay entwined and tore them apart before stabbing Kalulu a number of times in the chest and neck. PROMOTION; GOtv Slashes Decoder Prices from 89,000 Shillings to 39,000 Shillings.

Multichoice product, GOtv is the latest pay TV to cut decoder prices in what it terms as a move towards affordability.  GOtv recently cut decoder prices to Shs69,000 but yesterday announced a further cut to Shs39,000 in a month-long promotion.  It is not clear whether the promotion will be extended, however, Ms Joan Semanda Kizza, the MultiChoice public relations and communications manager, told Daily Monitor that 2020 was not an easy year financially, noting it was the right time to lower price.   This is the second time GOtv is cutting decoder prices in three months from Shs89,000 in December to now Shs39,000, which represents a percentage cut of more than 50 per cent.  The move comes after Startimes in December announced a cut in decoder prices from Shs49,000 to Shs39,000.  Ms Christine Nagujja, the Startimes spokesperson yesterday said the cut had been pegged on the impact of Covid-19 that had shifted subscribers’ priorities.
