Guards have been deployed to guard Mbale Woman MP Connie Nakayenze Galiwango. The move follows death threats contained in a letter leaflet that was dropped at her residence in Butaleja cell, Masaba ward, in Mbale Municipality. Initial reports indicated that unidentified people dropped a letter at her home on Thursday, demanding Shs 400 million, failure of which, she would be killed. According to the letter, the money was to be sent to a mobile phone number 0780723011 which is registered in the name of Moses Namisi. Elgon Region Police spokesperson John Robert Tukei told journalists that they got instructions from Internal Affairs minister Gen Jeje Odongo to heighten the legislator’s security. However, Nakayenze told URN that she was hesitant on taking up the police officers whom they have deployed because the DPC has refused to return one of the officers who were guarding her previously. The Director Public Prosecution (DPP), Mike Chibita has dropped murder charges against State Minister for ICT Aida Nantaba and other suspects who were implicated in the extrajudicial killing of Ronald Ssebulime. According to withdrawal letter addressed to Mukono Chief Magistrates Court, DPP said his office has resolved to discontinue with the murder charges against some of the suspects. “This is to inform you that the DPP has decided to discontinue proceedings against Nantaba Aida Erios PC Opira Ronald, PC Baganza Ronald and PC Cherotich Edward charged of Murder,” DPP wrote Ssebulime was killed on 24 March as he travelled to visit his children at school in Kabimbiri, Mukono district. Uganda’s Telecommunications giant MTN has slashed fees more than a half cut off for sending money on its mobile money network. The new rates that started on Saturday, September 7, 2019, apply to only those sending from MTN to MTN network. In a notice published on it’s social media platforms, the Charges for sending to other networks and withdrawing have not changed. For instance, one sending between 500,001 to 7,000,000 will be charged a uniform fee of 1,500 Shillings. This is down from 2,200 Shillings charged previously while sending 5001 to 500,000 Shillings will be charged between 500 and 1,300 Shillings. New MTN tariffs. MTN chart shows that withdrawing between 500,001 and 1,000,000 Shillings will cost you 13,750 Shillings. This does not include taxes. To withdraw between 4 million and 7 million Shillings, one is charged 52,500. Mr Yoweri Museveni has urged teachers in the country to work devotedly adding that God would reward the teachers who do their work devotedly. He revealed that he and his counterparts benefitted from teachers in the country who were devoted in their services. He strongly cautioned teachers against the practice of pretending to teach when they are not committed to teaching and warned that God sees those who do not deliver as expected. The President made the remarks at St. Lawrence College, London Campus in Maya, Wakiso District immediately he returned from Tanzania on Saturday.
