  First of all, the law allows any person, family, community, or association holding land under the customary type may change that customary land type into the freehold type if they wish to.    1)        Every district has a District Land Board which is formed to handle all land-related matters in the district therefore this Land Board is allowed by the Law to handle this type of conversion.     2)        When someone wants to change their land from the customary type to the freehold type, they have to make a formal request to the District Land Board and this request is supposed to be an application. The Application we are talking about is not a handwritten Application, but it is a Form which is supposed to be properly filled in by whoever is applying.     4.        The Form we are talking about here is called the Land Form4 which can be got on the Ministry of Land’s website. There is a fee that is required to be paid for as regards the Form and the amount to be paid can be got on the

 The territorial Police in Bukomansimbi has today 14th.May.2022, at around,  1300/c at Kawoko along Masaka -Bukomasimbi road,  registered a fatal accident that claimed lives of six people.  The accident involved motor vehicle reg no UAS 226U (a  fuso fighter), that  overturned, killing  6 people - one female and 5 male, on spot. Opiyo received land from his father’s brother who died without any child. He really wanted everyone to know that he is now a landowner since at their Sacco, everyone brings land titles to show their big achievement. So, he wants to know if there is a land title for his ‘new’ piece of land.  There are no land titles for customary land, however, the law allows the community members to apply for a document known as a Certificate of Customary Land Ownership (CCO) as documentary proof of ownership. This is not the same as a land title. You do not need a land title to be an owner. (We are going to cover the details on this certificate in tomorrow's post.) if you are wondering what makes customary land different from any other land, then today you are in the right place.  1. Who owns the land? If the land is customary, then usually it is not owned by an individual. It is owned by the family, clan or community. For example, no one person owns burial grounds, and a single person cannot sell the burial grounds. This land is owned as a community and so before an individual does anything about it or with it, there should be consent from all members of that land/ community.
