Facebook on Friday said it's extending end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for voice and video calls in Messenger, along with testing a new opt-in setting that will turn on end-to-end encryption for Instagram DMs. "The content of your messages and calls in an end-to-end encrypted conversation is protected from the moment it leaves your device to the moment it reaches the receiver's device," Messenger's Ruth Kricheli said in a post. NSO Group’s spyware has been used to facilitate human rights violations around the world on a massive scale, according to a major investigation into the leak of 50,000 phone numbers of potential surveillance targets. These include heads of state, activists and journalists, including Jamal Khashoggi’s family. President Museveni Cautions CIDs Against Use of Torture in Extracting Evidence and Confession from Criminal Suspects.

I issued directives to security forces and  chief of defence forces on 15-May-2021 concerning torture. "This is to enlighten you on the use of torture on suspected criminals in the fight against crime. In traditional times torture was used and accepted. However traditionally these ideas had many mistakes, that is why those ideas should be abandoned. Is it clear that to torture in order to extract confessions you have 3 possible mistakes that may include torturing, one the wrong person, secondly someone can admit to a crime in order to avoid being tortured and the real criminal does not get arrested because you have gone off with the wrong target. Thirdly conffesions by criminals is not necessarily. These lazy security persons should simply bring the facts i.e DNA test, CCTV etc. Therefore the use of torture must not be used again. Evidence through torture is not reliable" 🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬 President, Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Ochola first disbanded the unit on 8-May-2018 in his third month as IGP after taking over office from Gen Kale Kayihura. At the time, the unit under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Herbert Muhangi had become infamous for participating in the reported torture of suspects. But Ochola later reversed the decision on the advice of the Policy Advisory Committee. Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga now says the final fate of the squad will soon be communicated. Flying Squad Commander Senior Superintendent of Police Andrew Kaggwa was shocked to reach the office and found the personnel leaving. Kaggwa was directed to report to CID head offices in Naguru.
